Transitions, Time for something new

Transitions, Time for something new

Clap, Clap, Clap

To encourage children to try a new task, chant or sing these word to the tune of ‘’Row, Row Your boat.’’

Clap, clap, clap your hands!

It’s time for something new.

Find a brand-new place to sit,

And something new to do.

Choose a new activity

That you have not done.

Sit somewhere you have not sat.

Now we’ll have some fun!

Little kites

Have children pretend to pull kites from a tree and “fly´´ their kites to the next activity. Start with the number of children in the group and countdown to zero.

[Ten] little kites are stuck in a tree?

Along came [Sawna], quiet as can be,

And pulled one kite right out of the tree!

When everyone has moved on to the next activity, finish with:

Zero little kites are stuck in a tree.

All of the children have set their kites free!

Countdown

Say this chant to excuse children from an activity one by one.

Four, three, two, one –

Now our circle time* is done.

One, two, three, four –

[Katie], you may leave the floor.

*Replace ‘’circle time’’ with “storytime´´ or other activities as need.

Who’s Ready

Transition children to new tasks one at a time by singing these words to the tune of ‘’The farmer in the Dell.´´

Who’s ready for something new?

Who’s ready for something new?

The student who is ready now

Will get to start something new.

[Max] is ready now,

[Max] is ready now,

[Max] in looking ready now,

So choose what you will do.

Time to Find a Seat

Sing to the tune of ‘’For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow´´

Can you find your table?

Can you find your table?

Can you find your table?

It’s time to find your seat

Can you find your seat?

Can you find your seat?

Can you find your seat?

It’s time to sit down now.
